In our specialty of podiatric medicine and surgery, physical therapy medicine and rehabilitation play a critical role in overall function and purpose. Many of our primary procedures involve musculoskeletal surgeries. Such cases involve the anatomy of bones, muscle, tendons, ligaments and joints which have a longer postoperative healing or recovery time. As a result, implementation of certain treatment modalities to control the inflammation during post operative healing, bring a better prognosis or result.
Physical therapy is a team-approach, healing protocol. It involves education and getting the patient proactively involved in the program. From my experience, when the goal set for post operative healing is transparent and discussed with the patient before the surgical procedure, our success rate for patient satisfaction and overall outcome are much higher.
Physical therapy may be modified based upon the patient’s age, weight, medical history and employment. Physical therapy does not only involve machines, but your staff should be able to help motivate and inspire each patient individually. We aim to provide that same high quality, physical therapy rehab service when it comes to our patients.
